The Art of Science and the Science of Art.

As a teenager growing up in the UK, I was encouraged to specialize in either the sciences or the Arts. I was often considered ‘weird’ because I wanted to study biology as well as English and Art.

To me, science and the arts are not at opposite ends of a spectrum. They are intertwined. There is art in nature, and science in art. Language and the art of writing, while being creative, is a science. You hypothesize, explore, and reach conclusions. Your studio is your lab.

The beauty of nature is rooted in science, but it is also an art form. You have only to look around you to see that nature is an amazing artist. It’s no wonder I enjoy writing and illustrating stories about our natural world.

But what part of the vast natural world am I going to focus on this time? There is a large clue in this short video. After watching it, I would love to know what you think my new story might be about.
